Studying on the SELF programme was a fantastic way to spend my year abroad in France; it allowed me to broaden what I study, explore France, and massively improve my language skills.
The courses offered by SELF cover a broad range of topics and allow students to engage in new areas as no modules expect you to have studied their subject before, but if you have it’s a bonus! The timings of semesters and the amazing transport connections Lyon has allow for lots of opportunities to travel around France and Europe while you are here, both for weekend trips and longer during the mid and end of semester breaks. The emphasis put on language learning and the great support offered by the SELF team means that, if you choose, your French can progress very quickly while you are here. I would especially recommend trying to take French taught modules on the DEUF course if you want to challenge yourself!
