Dans cette thèse, nous avons étudié les difficultés - sans être exhaustif - que peut rencontrer le traducteur des textes du théâtre politique de l’arabe vers le français. Pour cela, nous avons pris pour exemple deux pièces de théâtre du dramaturge syrien Saad Allah Wannous Rituel pour une métamorphose (والتحوالت اإلشارات طقوس) et L’éléphant, ô roi du temps ! ( ملك يا الفيل الزمان). La première, traduite en 2013 par Rania Samara, nous a servi d’outil d’analyse, dans le but de mettre en lumière les difficultés de l’opération traduisante de l’arabe vers le français en matière de théâtre. La deuxième pièce a été l’objet de la partie pratique de notre travail dans la mesure où nous l’avons traduite en français et que nous avons justifié nos choix traductifs dans un commentaire qui a suivi le texte traduit. Dans l’analyse comme dans la traduction, nous avons adopté l’approche communicationnelle de la traduction comme approche traductive. Les principales idées de la Théorie du sens sont donc présentées dans une première partie. Outre l’approche communicationnelle, qui a été indispensable à ce travail, la vie de Saad Allah Wannous, les étapes les plus importantes de son parcours et l’influence des expériences théâtrales du monde arabe et d’ailleurs sur son écriture ont été également abordées en amont du travail de la traduction et d’analyse.

In this thesis, we examine the difficulties the translator of Arabic political theatre texts faces during translation to French. Therefore we have taken two theatrical texts as examples by the Syrian playwright Saad Allah Wannous: Ritual for a Metamorphosis ( اإلشارات طقوس والتحوالت) and The Elephant, o King of Time! (الزمان ملك يا الفيل). The first theatrical text was translated in 2013 by Rania Samara. Her translation will serve as an analytical tool for this research by highlighting the difficulties encountered during the translation of the theatrical text from Arabic into French. The second piece will play an essential part in this research and portray and be the practical part of our work as we will attempt to translate it into French and then justify our transition methods in a commentary. In the translation as well as in the analytical part of this research, I will use the communicational approach. According to semantics, the main ideas of the ‘Theory of Meaning’ will be presented beforehand to clarify the subject. In addition to the presentation of the communicative approach, this work will also include research on the career of Saad Allah Wannous. We will therefore study the most important stages of his career and their impact on his theater.
