LA PRESSE AMERICAINE AU 20-21E SIECLES: READING THE NEW YORKER

This course will examine the press in America in the 20th and 21st centuries through readings and discussions of articles from The New Yorker, America’s finest magazine for the curious general reader founded in 1925. Students will be invited to read a variety of texts from The New Yorker – fiction, investigative reporting, reviews, poems, cartoons – and discuss them in class. Students will be given opportunities to practice and improve their writing skills in four assignments of 2, 3, 5, and 10 pages in length. The intention is that students learn from doing and also from being exposed to excellent examples of contemporary English prose (fiction and non-fiction) and poetry.
