Description of the Host Research Lab

CIHAM is, in France, the research center dedicated to the comparative study of medieval societies in Islam and the Latin West, with a specialization in Mediterranean areas. It has been a pioneer in the practice of interdisciplinarity and the digital humanities, fields in which its expertise is internationally recognized. It is particularly distinguished by recurring research programs on minorities and dissent; sacred space and places of worship; pedagogical relationships and canons; labor in social relations; and the environment. Its new research program (2026–2031) marks a new stage in the development of its expertise in comparative religious history.
