Published by the British newspaper Times Higher Education, the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings ranks more than 1,500 universities in 93 countries and regions each year, making it one of the most influential university rankings in the world.

France ranked 7th in the world

In this new edition, France is ranked 7th in the world with 39 ranked universities, including Jean Moulin Lyon 3 University, which enters this international ranking for the first time.

As Frédérique Vidal, the Minister for Higher Education, Research and Innovation, points out, “after the 2021 general Shanghai ranking, these results confirm the progress of our universities on the international stage”.

About the Times Higher Education ranking

Produced by London-based TES Global Limited since 2004, the Times Higher Education ranking focuses on the quality and “core” missions of higher education institutions.

Each year, over 1,500 universities in the world are analysed using 13 indicators divided into five major categories:
  • teaching (30%)
  • research (30%)
  • citations and research influence (30%)
  • international outlook (7.5%)
  • innovation (2.5%)
