Internships in France

As of 11 May 2020, when France started moving out of lockdown, teleworking should be put in place for internships whenever possible.

Onsite internships can only go ahead if teleworking is impossible and if the pedagogical merits of this arrangement are clearly demonstrated.

Applications for onsite internships will be studied on a case-by-case basis by the deans and directors of the University’s component institutions, or at the very least by the course directors, in accordance with the host structure’s recovery plan.

For internships where teleworking is not possible, it is the host structure’s responsibility to respect and enforce the exceptional national health standards in force – including the mandatory social distancing rules.
In particular, the host structure is responsible for:

  • Limiting meetings as far as possible;
  • Limiting employee gatherings in small spaces;
  • Cancelling or postponing unnecessary trips;
  • Adapting work organization, in particular through team rotation.

To allow students at the end of their studies (especially in the second year of their Master’s) to complete their internship in good conditions and to prepare their entry into professional life, a decree of the President of the University has extended the 2019/2020 academic year to 31/12/2020. Internship agreements can therefore be put in place until this new date for students enrolled in the university in 2019/2020.
To find out the deadlines for thesis defences, please contact your course director. Note that internships may continue beyond the thesis defence, but must end no later than 31/12/2020.

Note: an internship may under no circumstances be used as a reason for an attendance waiver for the academic year 2020/2021.

Overseas internships

Overseas internships are strictly forbidden.

If you have any questions about your internship agreement, contact the internship agreement manager for your component institution.
