Objectifs
Study in English in Lyon, France (SELF)
Objectives of the program :
The SELF program is designed to encourage significant improvement in the student's level of proficiency in the French language, possible fulfilment of home university curriculum requirements and subsequent credit transfer.
Most of the courses are designed from a European or French perspective and emphasis is placed upon international comparison.
Students should be motivated by the international experience of studying in France, even if they do not master the French language. The program is thus open to all university undergraduates.

Spring semester : 06 or 07 January (tbc) 2014 to early May 2014

Admission criteria:
The SELF program is available to students (exchange/non-exchange) who fulfil the following requirements:
Academic background:
Students should have completed a minimum of two years of university studies ; the academic level of SELF corresponds to upper-division undergraduate level
Level of French:
- The SELF program is designed for students with a basic French level (<A2)
- The SELF is a semester program so students willing to study one full year should reach a minimum level equivalent to DELF A2 at the start of their DEUF semester to successfully carry on their studies in French the following semester.
Beginners or students with a low level of French are expected to study one semester only.
Level of English:
For non-native English speakers or students not holding a degree in English
- TOEFL IBT: overall score of 80 or higher with 20 at least for each section – only the official test will accepted (the local institutional version is not adequate)
- IELTS: overall score of 6,5 and 6 minimum at each section
- TOEIC including speaking, writing, listening and reading test: overall score of 660
- Cambridge Advanced: A/B
- Cambridge Proficiency: C minimum
Conditions d'inscription
- Exchange students are exempt from enrolment fees
- Non-exchange students: 3.000 euros. They include access to many university facilities and services:
- Libraries and computer rooms
- A wide range of cultural, leisure and entertainment activities
Additional fees: Social security (if applicable) : Euros 207 in 2012/2013
Sports (Euros 35)
Application deadlines for fee-paying students: 15 October for the spring semester.
Contenu des enseignements
Please note that:
- The number of students in SELF classes is limited
- A minimum of 15 students is required to open a course
- The SELF classes take place on the "Manufacture Campus" (6 cours Albert Thomas)
Each subject represents 30 contact hours (FLE 60 hours on the whole - around15 hours taught during the integration period) and 6 credits
The civilization class represents 20 hours and 2 credits
Number of credits : 32 for the full program
The SELF program includes:
- A 1 1/2-week compulsory integration period which combines :
- appr.15 hours of French as a Foreign Language (FLE) - 60hrs througout over the semester
- An introduction course to French culture and civilization taught in English -20hrs throughout the semester
The integration program is free of charge and is totally separate from DEUF orientation course.

Course selection form: the link will be sent to each SELF student at the beginning of November/May.
The course selection form must then be submitted online before 05 June for the 1st semester and 30th November for the 2nd semester.
Final course selection will be made upon arrival.
