Doctoral Application and Enrolment procedure

Enrolling in a PhD program

Principle

In general, a thesis takes 3 years to write. After 3 years, students will have to ask for an enrolment exemption for an additional year to write their thesis.

Since the 2012/2013 school year, the procedure to enrol in a doctoral program has changed and consists of a pedagogical and administrative enrolment process.
Please read the following information carefully according to the case that most concerns you.

Yearly enrolment is compulsory for candidates to remain in PhD programs.
(cf. the order of 7 August 2006 relative to Doctoral Degrees).

Case 1: First enrolment or reenrolment in a PhD

  • To apply to enrol in a PhD, students will need to contact the Lyon 3 Doctoral School
  • Students will need to connect to SIGED (Doctoral Schools’ Information and Management System) using their login details, which will be available from the SIGED network following an account creation request set up at the doctoral school.
  • Candidates will need to print out and complete the online application form.
Application forms will then need to be signed by the thesis supervisor and head of the research team, and submitted to the Doctoral School along with all supporting documentation.
  • The Doctoral School Director will examine applications and pass them on to the Vice-President of Research along with his recommendation.
  • After the President’s authorisation, the Vice-President of Research will accept or decline enrolment applications.
  • The Research Services will return applications to the Doctoral School, who will send a copy to the candidate. Successful candidates will then be able to connect to the Lyon 3 ‘Portail Inscriptions’ to complete their administrative enrolment and pay tuition fees.
  • Enrolments will be validated after all payments and necessary documentation have been received. https://webinscription.univ-lyon3.fr/

Case 2: Following the third enrolment

  • The Doctoral School Director will examine applications and pass them on to the Vice-President of Research along with his recommendation.
  • After the President’s authorisation, the Vice-President of Research will accept or decline enrolment applications.
  • The Research Services will return applications to the Doctoral School, who will send a copy to the candidate. Successful candidates will then be able to connect to the Lyon 3 ‘Portail Inscriptions’ to complete their administrative enrolment and pay tuition fees.
