Conférence | Thomas Jefferson

Robert Olwell, doctorant de la Johns Hopkins University et historien mondialement reconnu de l’Université de Texas, tiendra une conférence en anglais le 10 juin 2016 à l’Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3 et qui aura pour thématique centrale Thomas Jefferson.

Lors de cette conférence, Robert Olwell évoquera ses recherches et ses enseignements sur Thomas Jefferson, auteur de la Déclaration d’Indépendance de 1776 et troisième président des États-Unis de 1801 à 1809. M. Olwell est entre autre l’auteur de Masters, Slaves, and Subjects: The Culture of Power in the South Carolina Low Country, 1740-1790 (Cornell University Press, 1998) et a co-dirigé (avec Robert Tully) Cultures and Identities in Colonial British America (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2006).  

Cette conférence, entièrement en anglais, s’intitule : “Regarding Jefferson : A Discussion of America’s Enduring Fascination with Thomas Jefferson; including his place in modern American popular culture, his reputation in recent scholarship, and what students at the University of Texas want to write about when they are asked to write a research paper about him.”

 La conférence sera introduite par Steven Sarson du Département d’Études Anglophones et sera suivie d’une séance de questions-réponses.
