Study in English in Lyon, France (SELF)
Objectives of the program :
The SELF program is designed to encourage significant improvement in the student's level of proficiency in the French language, possible fulfilment of home university curriculum requirements and subsequent credit transfer, and general raising of cultural awareness.
Most of the courses are designed from a European or French perspective and emphasis is placed upon international comparison.
Students should be motivated by the international experience of studying in France, even if they do not master the French language. The program is thus open to all university undergraduates with a basic knowledge of French.
Period of study for SELF students ( with a full load of 4 courses)
first semester : August 30 - December 17, 2010*
second semester : January 5 - Mid-May, 2011*
(Most exams are to take place in the last three weeks of the program)
*DEUF (French-speaking program) students taking one or two SELF courses should only enrol as from mid-Sept. (1st semester) or mid-January (2nd semester)

Admission criteria:
The SELF program is available to students (exchange or free-movers) who fulfil the following requirements:
Academic background:
Students should have completed a minimum of two years of university studies ; the academic level of SELF corresponds to upper-division undergraduate level
Level of French:
- the Self is a semester program so students willing to study one full year should possess a minimum level equivalent to DELF A2 to successfully carry on their studies in French the following semester.
Beginners or students with a low level of French are advised to study one semester only.
Level of English:
for non-native English speakers or students not holding a degree in English: TOEFL iBT score 80 or equivalent
Enrolment fees: Additional fees: Social security (if applicable) : Euros 198 in 2009-2010
- Exchange students are exempt from enrolment fees
- The enrolment fees for free-movers (non-exchange students) amount to 2.750 euros per semester (2009-2010).
They include full access to all university facilities and services:
- Libraries and computer rooms
- A wide range of cultural, leisure and entertainment activities
- A large choice of sports (in group or individual)
Enrolment information :
SELF students are expected to study a minimum of 4 courses and apply on-line.
DEUF students are allowed to take one or two Self courses according to availabilities but are not given priority and can only apply on arrival.

Each subject represents 35 contact hours (FLE 60 hours) and 6 ECTS credits

full individual administrative and academic support.
Due to intensive study of French during the semester, all students at an intermediate level of proficiency can if they wish, attend regular French courses in the following semester.
Beginners in French are expected to study one semester only.
